Just 4 Hours/Week of Walking, Free From Fear of Breast Cancer!

Today the risk of breast cancer is almost high in most of the women worldwide. Some of the major risks of such a cancer include ill habits like smoking, drinking, hereditary, obesity and also unhealthy food habits. Though this type of cancer is risky for women around the age group of 35 years and above, there has been a lot of increase of breast cancer cases among the postmenopausal women in the recent years.

The cancer treatment centers have witnessed such cases lately. Hence researches and studies are undergoing to understand the cause of it in postmenopausal women.

One such study was conducted by Agn?‚s Fournier, PhD, a researcher in the Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health at the Institute Gustave Roussy in Villejuif, France. According to the research it was discovered that the postmenopausal women who walk for at least 4hrs per week or was involved in the physical activity, equivalent to 4hrs per week of walking has shown the signs or has lower risk of breast cancer. This research was published by American Association for Cancer ResearchEUR(TM)s journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

According to the researcher, 12MET-h, i.e. metabolic equivalent task hours is equal to 4 hours per week of walking, which is the basic amount of physical activity required for every human being. If not walking a woman can also prefer 4 hours of cycling per week or 2 hours of other physical training in the form of other sport per week. Hence to reduce the risk, it is not at all necessary to undergo a vigorous exercises or physical activity. Everyday a walk of 30 minutes is enough to keep a person healthy.

In this research, extensive data was collected and was analyzed that the women who were physically active for the past 5 to 9 years but were not able to stay physically fit for the past 4 hours were under more risk of invasive breast cancer. After menopause, the women should be active physically for the reduce risk, but the research does not suggest of how long this reduced risk continues once the physical activity stops after a few vigorous years of being physically active.

According to the questionnaire conducted in this study, it was discovered that women who undergo 12MET-h of physical activity irrespective of weight gain for the past 5 to 9 years earlier have shown the decrease in the levels of risk.
