How to Compare Healthy and Non-Healthy Teeth

There is a big difference between both healthy and non healthy teeth. However, you might not be able to simply identify this difference simply from the color. While there is nothing like a brilliant white smile, this is a superficial element that often uses a bleaching agent to change the color of the teeth. Unhealthy teeth can use this service the same as healthy teeth. So, the color of the teeth is not going to dictate the health of teeth. Instead, in order to notice the difference, either with yourself or with someone else, there are a few key points you need to look for.

Gums
The gums can say more about a person's oral health than just about anything else. While the color and shade of teeth can lie about the oral health, the gums do not. Healthy gums are going to have a lighter pink color around the teeth and then become darker towards the connection point with the jaw and lips. However, unhealthy gums are going to be darker around the teeth. Usually there is a darker color of red around the teeth. Beyond this, the gums are going to start to recede as well around the teeth, so it is possible to see more of the teeth and the teeth might look longer because of it. This can be a sign of possible gum disease, so for someone who is suffering from this, it is important to go see the dentist quickly.

Bad Breath
Does someone suffer continually from bad breath? There are a few different reasons behind this. First, they might just not brush their tongue, which can harbor food debris and manifest into bad breath. However, it can also be a sign of tooth decay and other oral complications. Due to this, if you find yourself suffering from bad breath, even though you brush your teeth, it is a sign you might have un-healthy teeth. Hopefully it is just a brushing issue and you are missing somewhere so your dentist can point you in the right direction for correcting this, although it might be a problem as well.

Teeth
Now, there can be some problems you might identify with the teeth. There might be darker areas of the teeth around where each tooth comes in contact with others. Now, it is difficult to brush in between teeth and someone who does not floss on a regular basis might have slightly yellow teeth in these areas. This can be a normal occurrence, but if the teeth are darker here, it might be a sign of a cavity or other problem area. There are a number of different instances this might be, but it is something that is work checking out (and just another reason to use floss). Beyond this, there might be larger gaps between teeth towards the bottom of each tooth. This is a sign that the teeth are starting to deteriorate and might cause you problems (or problems with someone else). No matter what the issue is though, it is very important to go in and see the dentist on a regular basis.

It is possible to avoid all of these kinds of problems by simply going into the dentist every six months or so for regular checkups that can help you out.
